To get out of the house a bit again this afternoon, I went into our local Mom and Pop shop, and standing patiently in front of me in the queue was a man with startling hands.
These hands have done a lot of tough and gritty manual work during the man’s life - probably still are toiling away at something. I would guess he works with volcanic rocks, maybe, or in the cane fields.
I think those nails have been whacked with a hammer or some sort of chopping/banging instrument once too many times.
This is why I think he’s probably a stone mason, working with those heavy cumbersome volcanic rocks.
He was a clean chap - even his damaged hands are as clean as he can get them, I guess, but they are exceptionally rough and ragged.
