From the loft.. by maggiemae

From the loft..

Climbed up there to go through a box that belonged to my mother. One photo I found that I scanned was at the wedding of my mother and my Dad! 1935. I think its such good photography for that age!
Thankful for:
Finding out history through pictures..
What wonderful memories, the quality is really amazing for such an aged photo. You are very lucky to have this, I have no idea which of my sisters took over the photos. I will have to find out.

@jyokota I'd love to share this find with a sister - unfortunately I have only one sister left out of 4! Most of my family are gone!

I love old images, I recently received some photos of my grandfather who passed away 3 weeks ago at the age of 100, and there are magnificent images of the family, and the lifestyle of my great-grandparents. Fav

Great condition & amazing definition there....you look very like your mum especially round the mouth don’t you think? We are a family who never seemed to take a great many photos which is incredibly sad I think...thankfully the next generation will have many...will they bother when so many more ways to capture the present?

What a wonderful find Maggie , and a lovely photo of your parents wedding - war time rationing so no white for the bride but a serviceable outfit , that could be worn on many more occasions . Un usual to have a casual photo in those days - usually every photo was so formal , As Pat says I can see a definite resemblance to your mum . A lovely keepsake Maggie !

What a wonderful photo. I have been scanning old photos during lockdown and I am putting them in a photobook.

@maggiemae Oh, Maggiemae, I am so sorry to hear that. One expects that it's likely our parents will go first, but to lose siblings and so many is especially hard. My mother-in-law was the oldest of four, and lived to be the last of the four, and burying her siblings was very hard. Treasure those photos and memories...

What a great find...Indeed...This is a superb memory photograph.

@grammyn It was obviously taken by a professional photographer which is good. Mum took heaps of photos but they are not good.

@beryl Beryl - this was her "going away' outfit! She had a white wedding dress and all the trimmings too. Before war broke out!
December 12th, 2020
@happypat Only my Mum and me took photos, Pat. She took trillions but not all good. I take thousands and some are good!

What a fantastic find for you :) I love how it captures your parents, specially in the "going away" outfit (now a thing of the past) I also love the bridesmaid in her dress in the background and the old car! So much to see and love!

Great treasure!

@gilbertwood John knew this car - he said the front windscreen extends out - you can see it does here! Why, heaven knows!
December 12th, 2020
@maggiemae Yes - great spotting! I think it was the "air conditioning" of the times!!!

It's a wonderful composition, and both of the time and timeless.

@johnfalconer That's very true John, I posted it on a family site as part of FB and all the family looked at it! No comments though!

What a great shot- both for your personal history but also history in general- look at that bridesmaid dress! The car is classic too- all around a fun shot to look at.
December 17th, 2020
@olivetreeann I've been asking around as to what people think that car is - might be a 33 Ford Sedan.
The bridesmaid's dress has a belt! Otherwise might be seen nowadays!
December 17th, 2020
@maggiemae Can't help you with the car- but the windshield and "fins" on the side there are very distinct. I wonder if you typed those features in Google, the date and the word car if anything would pop up.

Are there other pictures that show the grill or the hood ornament? That might give you another clue.
December 17th, 2020
@olivetreeann I have done some searches - those fins are not easy to find on results. Apparently opening windscreens are common in that era!

A great find and a treasure to cherish!
