I was able to visit Junko today, so we turned it into a photo-walk. Too icy to be out long but it was great to be together and outdoors. This fellow is one of two remaining in the town (Evanston, just north of Chicago), from the days when horses were the major form of transportation and a place to tie up was a necessity. The poor fellow just keeps waiting year after year for a horse to come by and visit again. Here's Junko's image from nearby: https://365project.org/jyokota/365/2020-12-31
Just under an hour left here for 2020, a year we'll all be happy to see behind us. We just have to hope that 2021, even if off to a rocky start, will see a steady slope of improved life. We just watched the New Year begin in NYC, after a quiet evening at home -- homemade pizza & salad & wine & dessert of peanut butter chocolate chip cookies (from Junko), watching to live concerts supporting some theaters in Michigan. Even with Covid and social distancing, it was a nice last-day for 2020.
Love this shot! And a great bit of history. Shame there are only two left. Here’s to hoping a horse awaits hitching in the new year. Happy new year to you and yours!
I'm so glad you came over for a photowalk -- it was so nice having a "real time visit" although we've been visiting online every day. And I'm very glad we can have parallel photos to end the year again. I like there depth you bring out in your photo, and the sense of location context, that horses came by in years gone by but now there are cars on the road.
Wonderful image and so good to see yours against Junko's - great fun!! Happy New Year Taffy as we both start year 9 - wow where has the time gone? Hopefully 2021 will be healthy and very happy for us all!! Big hug xx
A happy and helathy New Year to you and your loved ones Taffy. I really adore the friendship of you and Junko @jyokota I feel, through your narratives and "twin" pictures.
Nice narrative Taffy and nice picture. Glad to hear you were able to spend time with Junko! She spent so much time with squirrels that a friend a in flesh and bone must have been a godsend! Fav
Lovely narrative & shot and I also love the idea of a “parallel” photo that you share with Junco. I like the DOF in your photo and seeing more detail about the location with the home across the street and the car... nicely done! Happy New Year Taffy.
Makes you want to hire a horse next year just to take it there and tie it up for a bit for nostalgia's sake! Happy new year, Taffy, to you and Jim. Here's hoping things improve again soon.
I am, as of this very moment, talking myself into a new 365 attempt. Who knows if I can do it! But I'll still mill around if I fail. :) Happy new year!
@jgpittenger I'm glad you mentioned the car's juxtaposition. It was actually a little further away and I didn't like the proportion/composition, so I did move the car a little closer to the hitching post which made a big difference, considering it was just a little bit further away.
Love your shot, and the information about it.
Happy New Year to you too, hoping 2021 will be a better year!
