Favourite Post in Your Album (December and/or 2023)

December 31st, 2023
I'm sorry I've been very forgetful with this post, so I'd like to pass the baton on to someone else to pick up for 2024

In the meantime peruse your albums/s and share with the wider 365 Community a favourite from this month and if you would, your fave from the whole of 2023. I know it's like choosing your favourite child, but think of it as selecting from a chocolate box or biscuit tin instead!!

Please give a short explanation for your choice.

One day I'll get white in camera, but this is ok for a cheating high key in December!

In September I got up early specially to walk here, and the conditions were what I hoped for!

Happy New Year!

A HUGE shout out to Ross @scrivna for keeping this site safe, up to date and just being him and setting 365 up!!

My favourite this month was a challenge set by April @aecasey who asked me to do an in camera multiple exposure. This was a new technique to me and I had enormous fun learning how to do it, don't think the result was too bad either!

Finding a favourite from the whole year is going to be more difficult.

The Desert X art installment "Sleeping Figure." It was a windy, cold morning when we trekked out to the desert to see this piece.

The freight cars’ jaggedly rising and falling composition echoes the craggily beautiful backdrop of the San Jacinto mountain range. Its slam-bang visual pileup plays against a long, steady stream of freight trains rolling past behind it, day and night, in a manufactured river transferring tons of cargo from the Port of Los Angeles to distribution centers to the east. Inevitably, if coincidentally, disasters like last month’s toxic freight-train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, come to mind, as does the historic mix of staggering prosperity and shameful ruin that the railroads brought to the building of America. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2023-03-10/matt-johnson-sculpture-desert-x-2023-coachella-valley

Took this shot on a super foggy Christmas morning down by the lake. There weren't that many people out and about but the ones who were (many accompanied by their dogs) were seemed friendly and happy. It was an interesting change from my usual Christmas mornings when I would have been stuck in the kitchen stuffing a turkey.

I really think my last post of the year is my favorite. The light came together perfectly for me.

My December favourite is two of my grandies just because I love them and don't see enough of them

For December, my favourite is this last, wet leaf. The bokeh came out so nicely.

For the year is much harder, but I’m going with this one. The details came out exactly as I wanted, and I love that one errant petal that seems to be waving.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Jackie, if no one else has put their hand up, I could have a go at carrying this forward.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond - I wasn't very active during December. I had actually thought yesterday about starting a challenge of asking people to do a collage of their favorite pictures for each month of the year or a grid of four rows and three columns. Anyway;

December photo-

Favorite of the year, I think this one, but tomorrow I may pick something else - I chose this one because when I saw the vine growing on a tree, the colors grabbed my attention and I feel it turned out to look better than I imagined.

My December favourite would be this one, primarily because of the serendipitous nature of the shot. None of this was planned. I was setting up on my tripod for a shot of the tree when the dog photobombed it. I adjusted my composition to include him but just as I fired the shutter he moved and ran off, resulting in blur. I went back to shooting the tree but when I got home and looked at this on my computer it instantly became my favourite from the shoot. I purposely darkened it in post to emphasize the eeriness. It would certainly be on the short list for my favourite of the year but I have another one in mind for that.

This one is representative of my favourite shot of the year. I say representative because it was too hard to pick just one from this shoot. This was taken near Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories in March. It was a bucket list trip to see the Northern Lights and they did not disappoint. I have better shots of the lights but I like the two people staring up at them in this one.
