What a great contrast of beach & cityscape. Do the skyscrapers cast shadows over the beach? Just wondering, as that was a problem experienced in the old jewel of Cyprus, Varosha/ Famagusta, before the Turkish invasion, 1974. Hotels were built too close to the beach, though obviously they weren’t as big as these buildings.
@carole_sandford Hi Carol - thanks for your interest. They sure do cast shadows!! When they first started building these things many decades ago there were a lot of protests from locals who lived in beach houses along the front. Money and a few decades of "progress at all costs" councils won out and they've been building them taller and taller ever since. At one stage the building with the tall spire was the tallest in the world. They are now pretty much the expected thing with units in them sellling for millions of dollars. I've lived here for 70 years - the change has been incredible. The beaches are still fabulous though! Cheers Rob
