In past trips to Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Missus and I have seen many belted kingfishers but haven't been close enough for pictures. The last time we were there we decided we'd come back just to get close to one since we knew roughly the territory of one of them.
We went this morning just after dawn and spotted this male, named Elvis by the Missus, right as we got there. He gave us quite the show.
In this shot, he's looking for breakfast but hasn't seen anything yet. His comb, as a result, is laid back against his head.
